MEET OUR 2010 SCHOLARSHIP WINNER: We congratulate our 2010 Scholarship winner, Katee Finks! We mailed her $600 check to her community college. She'll continue her LVN program there. When she completes her 18-month program, Katee will become a Licensed Vocational Nurse. Here are excerpts from what she wrote to us:
"This particular school has a pass rate of 99%, which means all the
years they have been in existence they have only had 1 student not pass the
state board licensing exam the first time, and that student passed the second
time.
"The program will allow me to become a licensed vocational nurse, and
practice as a licensed nurse in my state. It will give me the
opportunity to have a career, and not just a job. I will get to impact
peoples lives in a positive way. It will also give me the
opportunity to make better money. For myself personally,
this is a stepping stone for more education.
"When I graduate from this program I will apply for an RN program, and when I am done with that, I will apply to a Nurse-Midwifery program. My ultimate goal is to become a midwife, and help impact women by empowering them to take control of their bodies in this aspect of their lives. I believe women have forgotten how powerful and amazing their bodies are, and how in control of them they can be!
"Thank you so much for the help to continue my education! It has
really been a challenge financially!"
-Katee Finks

No one, because no one applied!!!!!!
================ MEET
THE WINNER OF OUR 2006 SCHOLARSHIP: The $500 check will go toward botany courses at a community college. Peg was eligible to apply for the annual award because her sister, Boo Briggs, had a Cal Feminist savings account.

WHO BENEFITTED IN 2004 & 2005?
No one! In one of those years, we received no applications. In the other year, the applicant we chose was unable to use the scholarship because of unfortunate timing. Sadly, we could not issue her check by the deadline her school required. As a result of her misfortune, we modified the dates when we make our decisions and issue checks.
====================
Our first ever Irene Mercado Women's Scholarship went to Cal Feminist FCU member Jeanette Hilton. She used her $250 award toward her studies at a community college, San Diego City College.
